Lift Notes are a very powerful device and should be included whenever possible. Tests have shown that a Lift Note in a direct mail envelope package will consistently increase response.
To be effective, a Lift Note should highlight an issue that’s different from the letter in a quick, succinct way. Focusing on a value-add or different Signer are also strong tactics for leveraging Lift Notes.
Lift Notes are a very economical way to add an additional layer of engagement. Typically, a life note is printed on a small piece of folded paper with a specific copy and a clear call to action. It’s usually 7×10 in a #10 package.
Here are four tactics to help you maximize the effectiveness of a Lift Note:
#1: Counter an Objection. Put yourself in the shoes of your reader and imagine what the main objection could be to your offer. Then, design a Lift Note that counters that objection.
#2: Address a Different Theme. Good sales letters have one main theme. If you tap into something different but relevant in the Lift Note, you will increase the likelihood of a response.
#3: Let Someone Else Do the Talking. A Lift Note is a great place for a testimonial. It becomes a powerful way to present an independent endorsement.
#4: Highlight a Value-Added Benefit. Use the Lift Note to feature an extra benefit that wasn’t mentioned in the letter. Consider something that stresses the need for a timely response to ratchet up the value proposition.
